soumya rajaram

Soumya Rajaram is a well known Bharatanatyam dancer in the Boston area and performs regularly at dance festivals throughout The USA and in India.

She has been selected as the finalist for the Traditional Arts Fellowship by Massachusetts Cultural Council each year since 2016. She is also a recipient of the senior scholarship for dance by Govt. of India. Soumya started her training at The Kalakshetra Foundation, a premier institute for the Arts and continued her advanced training with Savithri Jagannatha Rao (alum of Kalakshetra). She continues to be under the guidance of Shri.Sheejith Krishna and Smt.Karuna Sagari for the past several years.

In Boston, She is regularly featured at The Jose Mateo Ballet theater festival, The New England Folk Festival and at The Dance Complex. Most recently, she has been funded by the Andover Cultural Council, the New England Foundation for the Arts, Jose Mateo Ballet theater to present full-length dance productions. Across the US, she has also performed at The San Diego Dance festival, The Cleveland Aradhana festival, Fine Arts Association of Arizona, Colorado Fine Arts festival and as part of the ensemble performing at various cities in the US in Sheejith Krishna’s famous production ‘Don Quixote’.


Through her dance school Samskrithi, Soumya has been teaching for the past 15 years. She also teaches Bharatanatyam during the spring semester at the Harvard Dance Center. She has conducted lecture demonstrations for the Dance Department at University of Massachusetts, Boston and Salem State College, MA and has at The Jose Mateo's Summer Intensive program. She is regularly invited to mentor choreographers for NACHMO ( National Choreography Month), Boston.

In India, she is regularly featured in the prestigious December festival for music and dance.
